My fiance’ and I have been together for 12 years and we live together. I handle all the bill paying but of course he contributes money. It drives me crazy to find strange phone numbers on his cell phone bill. Not long ago I found a number that belonged to a girl and he explained it away by saying that his friend had lost his phone and borrowed his. I accepted that excuse until one day I picked up his phone and went through his phone book. There she was as bold as could be. He tried to tell me he didn’t know his friend had put her number there. I don’t think if I was borrowing someones phone I would put numbers in their phone book. Ever since then he has been very careful not to let me get my hands on the phone. I need to find a good reverse numbers search site that is accurate even if I must pay. I would prefer to pay only once though and not per search. Please don’t advise me to leave him. I feel that I have too much time in the relationship to give up without proof of his cheating.

So in this series of articles we will examine the tools every PI must have in order to conduct successful telephone investigations. Reverse phone number databases, telephone trap lines and blind lines or caller ID spoof cards are all tools every investigator should have.

Reverse Phone Number Databases:

Before you can use the phone you need a phone number. Or you may already have a number but need to know the customer name and address of that number. This is where the telephone number data base comes into effect.

Every investigator should have access to databases that will return a customer name and address (CNA) from a non published or unlisted phone number. These database services will also have information on telephone numbers. They may be able to provide you with an unlisted phone number from a just a name or just an address. They also may be able to supply you with a cellular or wireless number from just a name or address.

Today on the Internet there are literally thousands of companies that offer this service. Some of these companies will only provide the information to lawyers, licensed private investigators , collection agencies or other licensed businesses with a legitimate need for this information. A Reverse Phone Search is by far the best way to find who owns a telephone number. About a year ago I needed to find out who was calling my girlfriend. The caller never spoke, but just called repeatedly, often late at night, or while she was at work. It was worrying for her, because the caller knew her home phone number, work phone number, and cell phone number.
